here's the plan: the rain is supposed to stop by about 6 p.m., it's just a matter of whether the wood is dry enough to burn. if not, we'll order pizza and do movies and games in the barn.

Thursday, October 15 and Thursday, October 22.

Two IMPORTANT notes about Thursday Night Life in the next two weeks:
  1. We will not be meeting this week. My father is coming to stay with us from New Mexico starting Thursday.
  2. We will not be meeting next Thursday either, because we will be meeting on FRIDAY, October 23 instead. This will be our bonfire at Josh Wilds house.
Have a blessed two weeks!

October 8: Prayer

Have you ever wondered if God is listening when you pray? Have you ever wondered if your prayer has any effect? If your answer is yes, then we have something in common.

I’m betting right now you or someone you know is worried about their job, house, school, friends, or family. I bet many of them, Christian or not, are praying for help. They’re hoping God will step in and fix the situation.

Take a look at what Paul says about prayer:

Look closely at the last sentence of that verse. We need to take a closer look at this verse to understand how to have a powerful and effective prayer life. In troubled times like these ,we need to know how to get our prayers heard by God.

I'll post some points from our conversation in the comments section after our discussion.

October 1: How far are we willing to take this?

How logical is the Christian faith? Is there a difference between delusion and faith?

Take a look at 2 Corinthians:

Are we to disregard what our senses tell us about the world around us?

So then, should we take control of every thought that doesn’t line up with scripture and change it?

What do you think about yourself, your life, your family, or any other situation you are currently in?

Do your thoughts line up with what you can see around you; or do they line up with the promises of God?

Have a blessed week!

the back side is pretty rad, too. but you'll have to wait.

September 10: Do we make our own rules?

What should we be using as a personal standard?

Do Christians need to follow the all of guide lines set for us in the Bible?

Do you feel like Christians pick and choose which rules to follow?

Do you think Christians pick and choose which standards they want to hold others too?

Consider this Facebook post I found online, and some of the replies that followed:

Poster:
When will real Christians stand up for whats right? When will we quit giving in to everything to make everyone happy when will we stop compromising? When will we take a stand on abortion and homosexuality? People say we must be tolerant well the bible says to be intolerant. When will we quit accepting these things? Homosexuality is an abomination, abortion is wrong, when will we take a stand? The bible says be drunk not in wine but in the holy spirit so why are so many christians getting drunk on the weekends? What about sex before marriage people if you cant handle the temptation dont put your self in a situation that It could happen. So my question is Who will take a stand on these issues and more if there is one I left out that you feel strongly about please add it.

Reply1:
I have a nice 4 1/2 pound rock sitting right here on my desk I would like to mail to you. Found it in a creek bed last summer while teaching young boys at summer camp about the awesome love that God has for each one of us. It is red sandstone and I have cleaned it up really nice. I figure you can use this to stone me to death for being an abomination, because that is what the Bible says should happen to me. But it is a real pretty stone, I even carved into it "John 8:7".Would you like me to send it to you?

Reply2:
He who is without sin shall cast the first stone!!!!! I agree ****. I think that people should get the planks out of thier eyes!!! We should all get the planks out of our eyes. We all make mistakes, Jesus allows us to, so let us all make mistakes ****, it's only part of human nature! We all fall short of the glory of God.

Reply3:
Here are a list of other sins from Leviticus
Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)
Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)
Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)
Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)
Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9)
If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10).
If a man sleeps with his wife and her mother they are all to be burnt to death. (Leviticus 20:14)
If a man or woman has sex with an animal, both human and animal must be killed. (Leviticus 20:15-16). I guess you should kill the animal since they were willing participants. Are they crazy?
If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people" (Leviticus 20:18)

So, do Christians tend to pick and choose which old testament rules we want to follow? What do you think?

September 3: How does the world see us?

Does The Church have an image problem?

How do the media and society see Christians?

What does Fundamentalist mean to you?

How do we approach people whose views are drastically different from ours?
Keep in mind that people with differing beliefs see those beliefs as strong convictions, too.

Here are the scriptures we are going to look at tonight.

August 13: Let's keep each other sharp!

Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."

This verse really has two different messages to give us.

1) We have the ability to sharpen each other. We can encourage one another. We can keep each other accountable. We can also admonish each other when we start moving away from the spiritual goals that we aspire to. When God gives us the ability to do something, we should really see it as a responsibility to do something. It is our responsibility to keep each other sharp.

2) If iron sharpens iron, then iron can dull iron as well. If two blades strike each other they will dull. Keep in mind: One of the best ways to stay sharp is to have a partner you can go to when you need encouragement, prayer, and help. Someone who you can help to stay accountable, and who can to keep you accountable as well.

First Week: What is coming out of your mouth?

When something goes wrong, what is the first thing that comes out of your mouth? When problems happen, the first thing we say is like a knee-jerk reaction. I often find myself saying, “Ah Crap!”, or “FAIL-Chuck”, or “I am so finished” ... and it gets much more colorful from there. When you find yourself in an ugly situation, do your first words define your defeat, or display your faith?

When I was in elementary school I went to Six Flags Magic Mountain with a few friends from school. Three of us paid to go on a ride called Dive Devil. (They have it at most amusement parks.) They strap you and two friends into a harness which is tethered to a tall archway. You are then lifted to a secondary structure, where you are released to dive, then swing through the arches. As a sixth grader, it was terrifying. Everyone on the ground knew how terrified I was as I flew above the crowd, screaming, in one long breath, something obscene. Had my mother been there, she would have been mortified and very angry! Now, as a child I never cussed. But that was my knee-jerk reaction. I wondered for a long time where it came from. The bible gives a good explanation for this...

So this passage explains that whatever we have allowed into our hearts will eventually come out. So we can try to be super church-y, and on our best behavior in front of others, but it doesn’t matter because when trouble comes and we need to rely on our faith, the first thing to come out of us is defeat

Let me give you one more example: It comes from a rather long story so I’ll cut-to-the-chase. One night, I was with some friends in a place I shouldn't have been, acting like an idiot. I found myself in an extremely frightening situation. Upon being startled by a demonic presence, the first thing to come out of my mouth was. “Jesus!” It was at that moment the presence was gone. The Bible tells us why this happened.

So it is what is in our hearts that comes out of our mouths, and what comes out of our mouths makes a big difference. So how do we change what’s in our hearts? We read God's Word, we focus on the things of God, we get into worship, and we spend time in prayer. If we can fill our hearts with God’s Word, then our knee-jerk reactions will be words of faith, strength, and power.
